Inflatable Pool Toys
A few good inflatable pool
toys will go a long way toward making swimming pool time for babies and
toddlers more fun.
Inflatable Pool Floats: For the younger baby an
inflatable float with a built-in seat is your best choice. For the older
toddler, at about three years old, large inflatable animals and other
shapes become the toys to have. Blow-up dolphins, whales and other
animals are designed to be ridden in the water. Some are large enough
for two or more kids to ride.
When choosing an inflatable pool toy for younger children, look for toys
that are not rounded on the bottom. These toys will flip easily, which
is frustrating for smaller children. If they do not swim well, then a
parent must always have a hand on the inflatable to keep it from
rolling.
Ride On Inflatable Pool Toys: These toys are more appropriate for
the older toddler and children older than age 3. Look for inflatable
riding toys that have flat bottoms and a low, wide design are more
stable in the water and easier to climb aboard. Look for heavy duty
handles on the sides for extra safety. Older children enjoy the
challenge of staying aboard an inflatable pool toy that will flip over.
This is most of the fun for this age group. The first few times you use
the toy, be watchful to be sure that no child could be caught under the
toy if it flips. Inflatable boats can easily trap a child underneath.
Inflatable Pool Slides: Inflatable pool slides are definitely for
the child older than two. These can be great fun, as the front of most
slides can be placed into the water, which makes them safer and less
frightening for the younger child. Many will accommodate a great deal of
weight, making them fun for older children, and even adults.
If your child is not a confident swimmer, yet wants to play on the
inflatables in the pool, invest in a quality life vest. A child wearing
a life vest can romp with the bigger children and you won't have to
worry about the child slipping under the water. Of course, you still
must remain vigilant.
When you're shopping for inflatable pool toys, be sure to ask whether a
patch kit is included with your purchase. While most are made from
sturdy vinyl, most pool toys get a good workout during pool season. It
is not unusual for small pinholes to develop over time, especially if
they are stored in the sun. A patch kit will preserve the life of your
inflatable pool toys.
For any inflatable pool toy larger than a small ball or simple tube you
would be wise to invest in either a foot pump or an electric pump for
inflating. It will be beyond the ability of most people to blow these
devices up without mechanical assistance.
Always keep in mind that inflatable pool toys are not life-saving
devices
